There's a concrete slab at 2nd floor to allow for large, open commercial space, bike racks, and lobby on 1st floor. Open web wood trusses were used to run piping and have tall ceilings. Roof is recreational and has a green roof section.
26,662 gross sq ft Architect: Nikolai Katz Architect SH Engineering designed the structure of this 8 story residential building with 51 units. Constructed of cast-in-place concrete. Foundations are poured on rocks, avoiding piles and minimizing the cost.
14,151 gross sq ft Architect: Raymond Chan Architect P.C. 2 story single family house with interior pool, ballroom, 3 car garage, housekeeper's quarters, a 20' span cantilever canopy with no columns, and interior trees. SH Engineering designed the structure with steel framing and Comslab long span deck to reduce number of columns. Many setbacks, transfer beams, and sloped roofs were used to achieve the architect's vision. The structure is hidden in walls and is invisible, as it should be.
24,267 gross sq ft Architect: Nikolai Katz Architect SH Engineering designed the structure of this 7 story, 45 unit residential building consisting entirely of cold formed steel and Dragonboard, minimizing the number of trades. Foundations are cantilevered to avoid support of excavation next to a public park, which would need mountains of paperwork to do. Coordinated with architect to make bearing walls line up, eliminating the need for structural steel.
24,267 gross sq ft Architect: Diego Aguilera Architects P.C. SH Engineering designed the cast-in-place structure of this 7 story, 34 unit residential building. Cellar was closely coordinated with architect to minimize support of excavation needed, resulting in mostly soil cuts. 7th story has a setback with concrete beams hidden within walls.
41,245 gross sq ft Architect: Nikolai Katz Architect SH Engineering designed the cast-in-place structure of this 7 story, 46 unit mixed-use building. The 2nd floor is a transfer floor with very deep beams hidden in walls, not affecting the commercial space at all. We are proud of this building because it passed an audit from DOB. We provided the requested information and the audit was dismissed in 5 days, which is probably a world record.
17,908 gross sq ft Architect: NJ Architecture, LLC SH Engineering designed the cold-formed steel and CMU structure of this 5 story mixed-use building. Façade has detailed brick elements that required different, custom cut supports at each location. Commercial space at 1st floor is split into two elevations due to a sloping sidewalk. There are enclosed balconies at every floor.
38,337 gross sq ft Architect: Nikolai Katz Architect SH Engineering designed this 7 story, 49 unit residential building with concrete. Foundations are bearing on rock and coordinated to avoid underpinning. Retaining walls are provided all around due to difference in soil elevations. The building includes parking.
21,204 gross sq ft Architect: Mark Weinberger Architect PLLC Expeditor: Avalon Group SH Engineering designed cast-in-place 5 story, 22 unit building. Design was done in 1 week and approval obtained in 2 weeks in time for 421a tax abatement. Those were some tough work weekends.
23,984 gross sq ft Architect: Sion Consulting Engineering PC SH Engineering designed the steel structure of this 5 story mixed-use building with double height commercial 1st floor. Support of excavation was done without any neighbor's agreements using closely coordinated soil cuts plus soldier piles, saving a legal battle. We also did the steel connection design.
14,998 gross sq ft Architect: Nikolai Katz Architect SH Engineering designed this 4 story, 19 unit residential structure consisting of CMU and cold formed steel. Special care was taken on support of excavation due to unusually deep cellar. Top floors eliminate all CMU to reduce costs and number of trades. CMU walls use special detailing to allow for many openings.
4,989 gross sq ft Architect: Highrise Group SH Engineering designed this 4.5 story building structure with CMU and steel. We coordinated closely with the contractor's procedure and requirements, who has done dozens of buildings in exactly this way. We don't make it easy for ourselves and save our own design time; we listen to you.
10,395 gross sq ft Architect: LND Design+Build SH Engineering designed a 2.5 story addition and horizontal extension on top of a 4 story brick townhouse. Structure consisted of CMU shear walls and cold formed steel framing. Total 12 units. Foundations were constructed with new footings in the existing building with varying conditions to match the neighbors without underpinning. Existing walls were used for bearing as much as possible.
4,962 gross sq ft Architect: Sion Consulting Engineering PC SH Engineering constructed this 6 story commercial building with cold formed steel and CMU. Large floor to ceiling windows adorn the facades. There are hidden cold formed steel shear walls in the facades, reducing the cost.
8,872 gross sq ft Architect: Tan Architect, PC SH Engineering designed the structure consisting of concrete columns, beams, and Comslab long span deck. The right side is cantilevered to allow a driveway. The interior is completely free of columns in its 25 feet span. The client was so happy, he took us out to dinner!

7,481 gross sq ft Architect: Building Associates INC SH Engineering designed new 5.5 story, 8 units cold formed steel framing. You can't tell by looking at the facade but it has two double height floors done with 20' high studs.
11,546 gross sq ft Architect: MHM Engineering, PC SH Engineering superceded this 6.5 story, 12 unit structural steel building when the previous engineer took too long to design it. We corrected many errors in the previous design. The most innovative thing is that the 2nd floor cantilevered steel framing is heavier than usual to support scaffolding over the driveway, saving cost.
7,081 gross sq ft SH Engineering superceded this 4.5 story single family building from a previous engineer that used cast-in-place concrete and deep beams. We used cold formed steel and CMU, cutting the structure cost in half and removing those ugly beams.
30,009 gross sq ft Architect: Sion Consulting Engineering PC SH Engineering designed this 8 story steel structure. There is a large cantilever holding 7 stories to allow for parking spaces. Bracing is hidden in walls to eliminate the cost of expensive moment frames. The architect was instrumental in coordinating layouts to hide the columns.
10,725 gross sq ft Architect: Hany Rizkalla, RA SH Engineering superceded this 8 story mixed-use building when the previous structure had problems with DOB. The first 2 floors and cellar is a synagogue with many different platforms and ramps, lending to a complicated design. Upper floors are constructed of steel and cold formed steel and have two double height stories. Special care and many site visits were made to handle this complicated layout and structure.
14,699 gross sq ft Architect: LND Design+Build 7 story, 18 unit cold formed steel and CMU building with cantilevered steel frame at 2nd floor.
4,520 gross sq ft Architect: Bahary architecture PC SH Engineering designed this new synagogue with fully open cathedral ceilings designed with steel moment frames. There are many complicated details in the interior, which SH Engineering accommodated in the structure.
9,127 gross sq ft Architect: Highrise Group SH Engineering designed this 4.5 story building with CMU and steel. We superceded to resolve a DOB audit. Emergency demolition was ordered by DOB for parts of the building, which we supervised 8 hours a day. The architect was also instrumental in clearing the audit, and the remaining construction went without a hiccup.
15,934 gross sq ft Architect: Angelo Ng + Anthony Ng Architects Studio, PC SH Engineering designed this 9 story, 21 unit cast-in-place structure. Support of excavation included underpinning and a tangent pile wall to deal with difficult adjacent building conditions.
