An emergency work order was served by the NYC Department of Buildings, which required a licensed Professional Engineer on site 8 hours a day during demolition. SH Engineering worked closely with the DOB Forensics Unit and supervised the demolition from start to finish.
The demolition spanned several crews 70 working days and involved removing burned framing, merchandise, and asbestos.
Extensive shoring, fences, and safety measures were installed to stabilize the structure. Much of the structure was unsalvageable and coated with asbestos. For that reason, we worked closely with NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
