This 6 story building at 140-20 Cherry Avenue, designed by Tan Architects, has a hidden feature: 8" thick 27' long floor spans, giving residents lots of headroom and no pesky columns.
SH Engineering used the inherent composite action of Comslab, a long span deck, to achieve these spans. We are experts in navigating the unique design and construction challenges of this product.
8" beams are hidden in the slab, creating a perfectly flat ceiling. Balconies are made with top reinforcement. As a bonus, no cranes were used, making the building far cheaper and lighter than a similar building with 8" prestressed concrete planks.
Earthquake and wind loads were analyzed in 3D to ensure that the aluminum panels can handle the deflections. This building will never collapse!
